
The Mangrove Steel Band, which was formed in 1980 when members of the local community, particularly Trinidadians, settled in Notting Hill in London and decided to keep their music and culture alive. Over the years the band has had great success, winning many awards and appearing at festivals in the UK and abroad. It is said that the band has awesome power and imagination.
As talented winners of the UK's Steel Band championships, they have grown steadily into one of the most prestigious bands in Europe. They are accomplished international performers, having completed tours across Europe, Israel, Trinidad and Sri Lanka including performing very successfully for the British Council a number of times. They have appeared at a variety of venues to an array of diverse audiences, including a performance in the presence of HM the Queen.
