It’s the time of year when most are thinking about hiring Christmas entertainment for their work party but others are already pondering the New Year and the inevitable awards bash that will arrive in February or March. Fear not, folks! We have your back. Here are a multitude of top hosts for your event.
Jimmy Carr is a renowned comedian and host, having presented numerous television shows on Channel 4 including 8 Out of 10 Cats and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year. Known for his signature laugh, deadpan delivery and occasional dark humour, Jimmy regularly tours around the UK and has released eight best-selling DVDs as well as recently recording a Netflix special, Funny Business. Combining audience interaction with a dash of gentlemanly charm, Jimmy Carr has won and been nominated for a number of awards including the British Comedy Award, the Perrier and the Rose D’Or.
Russell Kane is a hugely popular and hilarious comedian who has won the two biggest awards in comedy – the Edinburgh Festival award (formerly known as the Perrier) and Australia’s prestigious Barry Award. Russell tours a new comedy show all over the UK every year, has written a play that played at the Soho Theatre and the RSC and even wrote a novel, The Humorist, which was published in 2012. Russell Kane is a friendly and fun performer to hire for an awards evening (as seen recently at the Natural History Museum, above) and has appeared on all the top UK comedy shows including Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Celebrity Juice. Most recently, he can be seen in BBC Three’s hit show, Stupid Man, Smart Phone.
Fiona Bruce joined the BBC in 1989 and has risen to prominence as a newsreader and television presenter for some of the Corporation’s flagship programmes including BBC News at Six, BBC News at Ten, Crimewatch and Antiques Roadshow. An ever-popular host and journalist, Fiona has also featured on Panorama, Top Gear and also anchored her own current affairs show, Real Story. Noted for her charity work with Women’s Aid, the NSPCC and Childline, Fiona is a truly passionate presenter who is the perfect fit for any awards evening.
There is seemingly nothing that Gyles Brandreth hasn’t turned his hand to; he has been a radio presenter, novelist, MP and regular contributor to the BBC’s The One Show, and holds the world record for the longest continuous after-dinner speech at twelve and a half hours, which he did for charity. Known for his love of Scrabble and frequent appearances on long-running Radio 4 panel show, Just a Minute, Gyles has also toured three one man shows over the past five years. An engaging and charismatic host or speaker for any event, Gyles Brandreth is a must.
Colin Murray (title image) is a sports broadcaster who has presented a variety of different programmes across radio and television including Match of the Day 2, 5 Live Sport and Fighting Talk. Known for his quick wit and warm personality, he has won a number of awards for his coverage including three coveted Gold Sony Radio Academy Awards. Colin is a keen Liverpool fan but doesn’t limit himself to UK sports; he also has a keen knowledge of baseball, ice hockey and American football. He is a fantastic speaker or awards host, equally adept at taking centre stage or allowing others to enjoy their moment in the spotlight.
Gemma Cairney presents the Radio 1 Weekend Breakfast Show and in a previous job worked for Florence + the Machine as a stylist. Known for her cool persona, Gemma has been nominated for Best Music Radio Personality at the prestigious Sony Awards and is also a regular contributor to Radio 1’s Sunday-night Surgery. Popular both on the radio and TV, Gemma regularly presents BBC Three’s festival coverage and has a winning approach to hosting live events and award ceremonies.
Sue Perkins is a comedian, broadcaster and writer, perhaps most famous presenting The Great British Bake-Off across seven series for the BBC. Originally rising to prominence through her comedy partnership with Mel Giedroyc as part of Mel and Sue, Sue Perkins has since branched out to becoming a radio broadcaster and panellist for many of Radio 4’s most popular evening programmes. Well regarded across the media industry, Sue Perkins is a natural choice for any awards ceremony.
