If there’s one word to describe recreating the original Titanic, it’s ambitious – so if you’re planning an event to celebrate the rebirth of the famous ocean liner, the entertainment had better be pretty ambitious too, no? Thankfully the acts that performed at the launch event for the Titanic II at the Natural History Museum were a great fit for a project of this scale, and even more thankfully, we were there to take a few pictures.
The Titanic II received a fitting musical tribute from our full Orchestra who performed pieces such as ‘Oh Danny Boy’, ‘By The Light of the Silvery Moon’ and ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ throughout the evening and also provided accompaniment for a number of the other performers.
Guests were treated to performances from singer Roxy Darr, Violinist Taylor Davies and classical guitarist Sungha Jung all of whom offered their own take on the song most closely associated with the original Titanic; Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’
Other performers included String/Vocal quartet Siren and The McGuiness Band who musically represented the ship’s Irish Heritage along with a number of Irish Pipers who welcomed the guests into the venue. The event ended with all the performers on stage for a rendition of Alexander’s Ragtime Band during which the crowd were lead in a conga line around the venue.
