With all the music and food on show at this recent promo event for Swan at the Globe, you kind of wish there was some pithy Shakespeare quote you could whip out in the opening paragraph of your blog to make your write-up seem all literary and reinforce the link between the venue and the adjacent Globe Theatre. But sadly, there isn’t. No, really, I studied English and I’m pretty sure there isn’t.
Taking advantage of a balmy evening on the banks of the Thames, the popular Bar/Restaurant showed off their Summer Menu and Balcony Room with the help of a couple of our favourite new acts. Gypsy Jazz duo The Javas were first up playing an appropriately sunny mix of Hot Club jazz in the style of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. The guitar and violin duo’s repertoire covers everything from Django Jazz favourites to a few modern pop covers performed in the style of the era. And as Shakespeare famously said “Hot Club Jazz is my favourite kind of Jazz...”
Next Big Thing winners Penny Arcade performed their first gig as Next Big Thing Winners and immediately showed what made them such obvious choices to be Next Big Thing winners. The effortlessly charming vocal harmony quartet quickly won guests over with their vocal arrangements of poplar hits and quirky mash-ups not to mention their lovely little faces. And to quote Shakespeare once again “I like it when the one who looks like he should have the lowest voice, in fact has the highest voice”... Ah, that Shakespeare.
