We all love a scary movie. Okay, not everybody loves a scary movie (especially not the not-actually-that-funny-but-we-still-laugh Scary Movie) but a lot of people do and for them, Hallowe’en is one of the best events of the year. Hallowe’en parties, trick or treating, Devil’s night… There’s a lot to enjoy. But how should you theme your Hallowe’en Party? We have a host of different ideas depending on your favourite scary movie of the season!
Last year, we were overjoyed to attend By Word of Mouth’s annual Hallowe’en party in our Beetlejuice costumes. Tim Burton’s eighties classic is full of scares but also comedy, so with this in mind, we think you can get away with a dash of comedy in amongst the scary stuff. A Beetlejuice costume or two is an absolute must, whilst you might like to make use of VR to create some of the more outlandish landscapes in the film. Don’t have the budget? How about some funky flavoured haze courtesy of the Edible Mist Orbs!
A comic book adaptation before comic books were cool, this 1994 movie is a gothic masterpiece and combines the blackest of hues with top action and some killer dialogue. Taking place on Devil’s night (the evening before Hallowe’en), the titular character returns from the grave to take revenge on those responsible for his murder. A gothic dinner party is a must for this one, costumed characters (obviously) and Fire Fury will all help to enhance the mood and atmosphere. Stuck for a setting? Again, gothic is best!
If you were a child in the 1990s then no Hallowe’en party was complete without a watch of Hocus Pocus, Disney’s film about three villainous witches! There’s magic galore so why not hire a magician? You might also remember that the main characters also gatecrash a party, forcing everybody to sing and dance until they die. Whilst we don’t condone that sort of behaviour, there’s nothing wrong with having a bit of music at a party so why not hire a DJ or band to help you dance the night away?
The Nightmare Before Christmas
“What’s this, what’s this? There’s something in the air…” Another Tim Burton movie and one that happily combines two of our favourite holidays – Christmas and Hallowe'en! If you can’t choose between the two then it’s probably best to have an entertainment act from each as you host your very own Nightmare Before Christmas party. How about hiring skeleton acrobats alongside a snow machine? It’ll be great fun and we highly recommend a sing-a-long of the film during the evening.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
We wanted to do a paragraph on The Addams Family but many of the ideas would be similar to Beetlejuice. We also needed a paragraph on zombies and what better way than by combining the scares with the upper classes of Pride and Prejudice? You can have a lot of fun with this one, mixing ye olde entertainment – did someone say a lute? – with zombies and a lot of blood and gore! For extra fun, we highly recommend hiring a photo booth to capture the carnage!
For more information on any of these ideas - our title image is from cult movie Trick 'R' Treat by the way - or perhaps if you have a Hallowe’en idea of your own, please get in touch using the contact details below.
