Christmas isn't too far away and we are hugely busy organising entertainment for Christmas parties throughout London. Unfortunately some of aren't so lucky and this is where Crisis at Christmas comes in. Every year, they attempt to make Christmas a joyful time for the thousands of homeless all across London and yes, that includes having a few volunteers to provide entertainment throughout the festive period.
We were only too happy to speak to Mikey Nissenbaum of Crisis to learn a little more about the project and how entertainment acts can get involved.
What is Crisis at Christmas?
Each Christmas we open centres across London to bring companionship and vital services to thousands of homeless people at one of the hardest times of the year.
Providing beds, showers, medical care, housing advice, clothing, food, counselling, friendship and much much more.
How long has it been running for?
Since the first Crisis at Christmas in 1971 the event has come a long way. From 20 volunteers bringing in homeless people to a derelict church, the event has now spread to running across the country including 10 locations in London, helping over 4,000 people in Christmas week.
Why do you need performers?
It just wouldn’t be Christmas without music and entertainment. This is something that our guests rarely have the chance to enjoy or to join in with, but with your help, we can make this possible. Whatever act you have, carols or covers - disco or dance - if you can entertain or perform, then we want you!
Where and when are you looking for performers to come in?
In any one of our ten centres across London, from the 23rd – 29th Dec, performers come in between 14:00 – 21:00 typically for an hour slot to come and bring some festive joy.
