Matisse Inspired Entertainment At The Tate Modern

May 19, 2014

Riverside home of contemporary art and culture, the Tate Modern’s venue spaces are spectacular canvasses for hosting events – so when our client asked us to supply some entertainment options for a Matisse-inspired event, we knew exactly how to paint the smiles on guests' faces.

We called upon our aerial silk artistes to provide a graceful ambience for the event along with gypsy jazz ensemble New Cross Hot Club Trio providing background music and two silhouette artists to reflect the Tate's new exhibition on Henri Matisse's paper cut-outs.

Performing to a Hôtel Costes soundtrack the aerial silk performers worked perfectly within the lofty interior of the Tate Modern, their costumes lustrous with blue and violet-tinged tones designed to complement the colours used in this famous Henri Matisse cut-out.

You can check out some videos of their performances (alas, not this event in particular) on our YouTube channel.

New Cross Hot Club are an ensemble made up of violin, guitar and double bass that recreate the sounds pioneered by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli. The three piece band provided jazz-inflected background music to complement the event's franco-bohemian atmosphere.

Not forgetting the pièce de résistance in our themed entertainment – we also supplied two silhouette artists to skillfully create 'cut-out' portraits of guests as a homage to Matisse's uniquely modern art style.

To see where we’ve worked with aerial silks and the Tate Modern in the past with some more videos and pictures, take a look at Aerial Silks, Glow Dancers and LED Drummers – an outstanding circus-inspired event for the Cambridge/Oxford boat race.
