If you’ve been following our side project Make Their Day, you’ll have seen our fictional couple Garry and Sarah plan their wedding from the very beginning; visiting their wedding venue, meeting with their photographer, trying on the dress and meeting with suppliers as they put together their dream wedding. That dream wedding became a reality on Tuesday Night at One Marylebone as Garry and Sarah tied the knot in front of a group of their closest wedding industry luminaries.
Make Their Day was conceived as a new and innovative alternative to the traditional wedding fair, giving couples a chance to see how wedding planners, suppliers and venues work together to create a wedding. We teamed up with Zafferano, Cutture, GC Couture, Fisher Productions, Lavender Green Flowers, Allora Visuals, Sassi Holford, Julia Boggio, Dynamic Bars, Great Hire and ASP as well as the team at One Marylebone to put together a wedding that showed off the best that the industry has to offer.
Seeking to offer a few twists on old wedding favourites, we started with Ayre Flutes who provided background music for the ceremony and for the arrival of the guests. This elegant, contemporary wind ensemble offered a similar repertoire to the classic string quartet or harpist but their all-flute line-up made for a nice break from the norm.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to let their hair down a little as the wedding moved into the opposite gallery. Ramshackle mockney pop covers trio The Watling Street Band bustled their way through guests performing their usual mix of off-kilter cover versions as guests enjoyed drinks and canapés from caterers Zafferano.
Guests were then lead downstairs for dinner and, following a short ‘best man speech’ from Adam Sternberg, watched Garry and Sarah’s first dance as ‘husband’ and ‘wife’. But as with the rest of the entertainment, we weren’t planning on doing things by the book - so after a few bars of Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares’ 2 U’ sung in an eerily familiar velvety baritone, the couple were joined on the dance floor by cabaret drag sensation Le Gateau Chocolat who performed a show stopping set, even taking time to dance with the groom.
It was left to much sought after wedding band Madhen to cap off the evening with an energetic set of dance floor filling songs from the last 30 years. The band’s charisma and impeccably chosen set list make them the perfect choice for big, extravagant weddings and their larger than life stage presence was a great match for the opulent Soane Hall at One Marylebone.
