London Christmas Theatre to see in 2016

October 25, 2016

There’s no doubt about it, people love coming to the capital to enjoy some theatre during the Christmas holidays. 2016 will be no different with some amazing shows coming to London and here we highlight our five picks for the festive season! Christmas theatre is a somewhat vague term but in our minds, it has to be festive themed or specially picked for the holiday season! Without further ado then, let’s see what you can enjoy to bring 2016 to a close!

Cinderella at the London Palladium

Having not hosted a pantomime for almost 30 years, the London Palladium is bringing it back with a bang this Christmas with the classic rags to riches fairytale that is Cinderella. With a cast that includes Paul O’Grady, Julian Clary, Amanda Holden, Lee Mead, America’s Got Talent winner Paul Zerdin and Count Arthur Strong, you can rest assured that you’ll have a wonderful time! This will be superb Christmas entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

The Red Shoes at Sadler’s Wells Theatre

Why not see a ballet this Christmas? Based on the classic Powell and Pressburger film, Sir Matthew Bourne is bringing The Red Shoes to Sadler’s Wells Theatre. It might not be as Christmassy as a lot of other shows in the West End (including The Nutcracker at the Coliseum) but it will definitely be a show worth seeing! The story concerns a dancer who loves to perform but her ambitions become a battle ground between the two men who inspire her passion. A must see!

Peter Pan Goes Wrong at the Apollo Theatre

The original cast of the hit West End comedy The Play That Goes Wrong return to the stage this Christmas in a festive offering based on J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. As in the original production, the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society argue over cast disagreements, despair at technical hitches and attempt to avoid the various flying mishaps. A world of fun to enjoy this Christmas.

Potted Panto at the Garrick Theatre

Why see one pantomime when you can see seven in just eighty hilarious minutes?! Double Olivier nominees Dan and Jeff return for a fourth festive season of Potted Panto, returning to London after a world tour of Potted Potter. There’s nothing quite like seeing theatre in London at Christmas and with this show you get seven times the fun!

The Wind in the Willows at Rose Theatre Kingston

The Wind in the Willows is one of the most beloved books of all time and in this new stage adaptation, you’re in for a world of fun! Located in the suburbs of west London, the Rose Theatre Kingston will host this glittering production that brings to life the Kenneth Grahame classic with lashings of festive cheer thrown in. An enchanting ode to the wild banks of the River Thames.
