So this is it. When the final whistle blows at the end of the Championship Play-off Final on Bank Holiday Monday, that will be it for league football for another year. With just the FA Cup final to go, you may be wondering what to do with your time in the many weeks off that follow. You may even be looking towards booking entertainment to plug that gap in your schedule.
Whether you’re celebrating promotion or recovering from the heartache of relegation, we’ve got some football-themed ideas to keep you engaged.
Invite Peter Reid round
Well, why not? Who better to chat to your mates than manager and pundit, Peter Reid. He knows the feeling of being both promoted and relegated and might even be able to tell you what various television pundits are like in real life. If you’re a Sunderland fan, you may also be able to question him on that awful team he picked in that game you lost all those years ago. Or how brilliant his decision was to throw on that player (I’m not a Sunderland fan so you’re on your own here) to err...win that vitally important match. A top speaker, Peter Reid is one for the true fans.
Clap along to T2
Considering they’ve entertained the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, it’s fair to say that T2 are a great shout to keep you from returning to Football Manager during your weekends off. Yes, it may be great for you to feel like you’ve won the Champions League with Rotherham but it may be detrimental to other aspects of your life. You know, like hygiene, remembering to eat, etc. T2 have incredible ball skills and will leave your guests in disbelief. They don’t even wear trainers!
Marvel at Flagman
Because nothing says football like playing K’Naan’s 2010 hit Wavin’ Flag at full volume. Turn up those speakers! But hey, what about if you had some visual accompaniment to go with it? Yes, Flagman can provide that much needed boost with his outrageously impressive upper body strength. What a song, what a guy, what a performance. Wave your flag indeed.
Nod approvingly at Footy Chaps
Just one of the many different incarnations that the Acrochaps can take on, Footy Chaps bring a bit of the 1920s to the present day. Able to pull off a number of acrobatic feats that probably can’t be replicated by three of your five-a-side football team (yes, even with that pint of Dutch courage coursing through them it wouldn’t be advisable), the Footy Chaps will have you clapping your hands for the first time since Doddsy scored that scorcher from thirty yards out back in January.
Hire a comedian
Yes, there’s nobody better for diffusing a situation (like overcoming the sheer devastation of just missing out on promotion due to an injury time loss) than the spark and wit of a top comedian. From Jason Manford and Frank Skinner to top impressionist Alistair McGowan, there are a wealth of possible options to cheer you up as the season comes to an end.
And if all else fails, you can still enjoy the Champion’s League or U21 European Championships...
