Cabaret Entertainment at Cafe Royal Hotel

June 13, 2013

The recently refurbished Cafe Royal Hotel played host to a line-up of show-stopping acts for a recent corporate event with destination management company Allied PRA. The event featured everything from circus to cabaret to vintage dance with a few innovative collaborations thrown in for good measure.

Our Contact Juggler at Cafe RoyalGuests were greeted in the opulent Pompadour Suite by our costumed contact juggler and stilt walker as well as a pair of our vintage cigarette girls who handed out raffle tickets in eye catching pink costumes. Music in the reception came courtesy of jazz vocalist Jess Berry who was ably backed by a keyboard player as the pair performed a selection of jazz standards and modern tunes.

Gentleman Juggler Mat RicardoFollowing the drinks reception, the audience’s attention was drawn to the stage where comedian and world renowned ‘Gentleman Juggler’ Mat Ricardo introduced an evening of breathtaking cabaret entertainment. Sunderland’s favourite Spirit Medium Ian D Montfort (character comedian Tom Binns) kicked things off with a characteristically hilarious tarot reading before launching into his eerily accurate cold-reading act. (You can read more about Tom/Ian here)

Our Flapper Dancers The Gatsby GirlsNext up, guests were transported back to the jazz age with a pair of exquisite 20s themed vintage acts. Flapper Dancers The Gatsby Girls beguiled guests with a dance performance worthy of one of Jay Gatsby’s infamous parties before vocal harmony group Elle and the Pocket Belles took to the stage with a set of songs from the era and retro reworkings of modern tunes.

A Tapdance and Sax collaboration at Cafe RoyalThe vintage interlude was followed up with two spectacular collaborations between Sternberg Clarke artists. The first brought together jazz saxophonist Jake with tapdancer Junior for a unique and unexpected performance that had guests mesmerised with a flurry of fast foot-and-finger-work. Australian Soprano Saira stunned guests at our recent Recitalists showcase with her phenomenal vocal range, so her collaboration with modern circus artiste AcroFelipe was especially jaw dropping as Saira provided a musical backdrop for Felipe’s astonishing handbalance act.
