You don't go around calling April Band Month if you're not going to audition a few new bands. Better audition a few new bands then... And where better to start than with Clapham based foursome The Lightyears, who we were able to watch rehearse round the corner from our offices at Ritz Studios (operated by event hire specialists Peter Webber Hire.)
The Lightyears treated us to a couple of cover versions ranging from old fashioned Rock n' Roll (Great Balls of Fire) to modern Day pop (Firework) that showed their impressive knack for putting their own stamp on any song they try their hand at. With a stadium friendly style that recalls pop/rock outfits like The Script and The Fray, the band have already made a name for themselves supporting acts like The Mystery Jets, The Levelers and the aforementioned Script performing their own material.
Refreshingly, the guys don't seem sniffy about performing all-covers gigs as a way to support their own material having played weddings and corporate events with the same energy and enthusiasm they've displayed in high profile support slots.
With a number of high profile gigs already under their belts, we're sure we'll be getting plenty of enquiries for the Lightyears in the coming months. For more info on the band or any of the other acts we've featured in Band Month - get in touch.
In the meantime, take a look at The Lightyears' showreel... you like them already don't you? I can tell.
