Audition Round-Up: Arabella Strings, Ben Hart and Matthew vanKan

February 23, 2012

There was a good mix of auditions in the office this week showcasing everything from classical background music to magic to Rat Pack. First Up, string quartet 'Arabella' popped in to our recently constructed 'audition corner' to show why they'd work perfectly as background music for Corporate Events and Weddings with a selection of elegant and varied pieces, all beautifully played as you'd expect from students of London's finest music academies.

Magician Ben Hart's fingers might be familiar thanks to a prominent appearance in a recent Trident chewing gum advert in which he skillfully manipulates a packet of said chewing gum from the back seat of a car. Ben's fast-fingered mixture of coin and card tricks had even the Sternberg Clarke team scratching their mighty heads. One particular trick see's Ben shoot a 'finger gun' at a pack of cards on the floor, seemingly knocking a marked card out of the pack... it's brilliant, book him immediately. Also, as a tenuous link to Arabella Strings - Ben has a rather Lovely Face that he brings along to gigs for no extra charge... like they do.

I'll tell you who else has a lovely face; Ratpack and Jazz singer Matthew vanKan, who treated us to a few velvet larynxed cover versions of songs such as 'Georgia on My Mind' and 'Cheek to Cheek'. Matthew performs either to a backing track or with a full swing band and even in these most informal of circumstances, he was able to captivate his audience with a laid back stage presence (or 'Downstairs Office Presence'... delete as appropriate.) We can see Matthew fitting in to a classy evening Wedding Reception with a full back backing him. File next to Mickey and Kevin, then.

Rounding out this already pretty well rounded out audition post, we have pianist Joe Thomas who'll no doubt be finding plenty of work at one of our many hotel residencies in and around London. Joe's sprawling repertoire takes in everything from light Jazz to tasteful pop-covers and though I may be throwing this compliment around a little too freely this week, also has a Lovely Face as evidenced by the handy promo video above.

If any of these acts are of interest for an upcoming event or if you have an act and would like to audition, feel free to get in touch for more info.
