John Sergeant, formerly political editor of ITN, also spent 30 years with the BBC. As a reporter John covered conflicts in many parts of the world, including Vietnam, the Middle East and Southern Africa, before settling down as a political correspondent. He often travelled with the prime minister of the day, including Margaret Thatcher and John Major as well as Tony Blair. John recently appeared on The One Show and in 2008, starred in BBC1's, Strictly Come Dancing. John has also appeared on the comedy series Argumental on Dave channel. John is currently to feature in a new three-part factual series for ITV1 - John Sergeant's Tourist Trail.
John writes for various journals including travel writing for the Daily Mail. He has presented all the main news programmes on Radio 4, including the Today programme and The World at One. In recent years he has been allowed to return to his first love in broadcasting: light entertainment, appearing as a guest in a wide variety of programmes, such as Have I Got News for You, Room 101, and the News Quiz on Radio 4.
Highly respected within his profession and regarded by the wider public with a mixture of amusement and affection, John Sergeant is a first class natural performer whether hosting, giving an after dinner speech or presenting awards.
