Charlie is a pulsing concoction of literary influences and kinetic verbal onslaughts. From drum ‘n’ bass MC to acclaimed performance poet he has lead a versatile existence with every venture ferociously punctuated by his love of words, rhythm and poetry.
Having supported the likes of Scroobius Pip, Ghostpoet, Polar Bear and Chester P as well as being a slam champion at Utter, Farrago, Rum Punch, Beat and Open/Wide, a two-time Hammer and Tongue National both the UK and abroad, he has become a well-known face on the spoken word and festival circuit. ?2012 saw him complete a tour of festivals including Latitude and Soundwave Croatia, and he premiered his one man spoken word show The Stories of Shakey P, in Edinburgh. The one hour show, which garnered four and five star reviews, is a dynamic and highly entertaining compilation of rap versions of Shakespeare plays, designed to capture the essence of the stories with a contemporary linguistic slant.
As well as a staged performance or a workshop style performance, Charlie can also create bespoke poems/raps tailored to specific requests. He can be given three words at random which he can then use as part of a fantastic poem which he instantly delivers – he can either do this as a strolling performance or stationed at a sort of takeaway kiosk creating poems to order.
